Indiana dunes? |
Travel Info what is the beach like? how much are souvineers and concessions? is it nice? Travel Tips Indiana Dunes is located about 20 miles east of the Illinois/Indiana Border. Having been past the area several times and actually stopping at the beach area last summer, this is a popular area for beachcombers. Much of the sand is like what you see along the West Coast dunes...smooth and very high. Besides being on the beach, you can hike around the dunes as well. There is an area called Mount Baldy where if the conditions are right, hangliders will soar from their peaks. As far as concessions and souvenirs, you can find shops in nearby towns (Miller Park, Chesterton, and Michigan City to name 3). Chesterton is home to the Wizard of Oz Fest every September and Michigan City is home to Blue Chip Casino and the Lighthouse Outlet Malls. On the Dunes website below, there is a link for their bookstore where you can find souvenirs as well. You can also take nature walks in the Indiana Dunes area as well. Check the links out for more information. Source(s): http://www.nps.gov/indu/ (Nat'l Park Service site for the Dunes) http://www.northernindianagetaways.com/... Other Travel Tips The Beaches are awesome, just need some good weather. SOme of the best sand in the world. They call it singing sand, because it squeeks when you walk in it. Souvineers and concessions are cheap if you can find them. |
