Is Congress Theatre in a decent area of Chicago? |
Travel Info I may be going to Congress Theatre for a concert in August. Is this in an okay neighborhood (as in, will me and one friend, both young women) be okay in the evening there? Any decent hotels you can recommend somewhat nearby that we'll be safe at? Travel Tips Sorry, but the other answer has it wrong. The Congress Theater and the Congress Hotel are two different things, VERY far from each other. The area around the Congress Theater (2135 N. Milwaukee) is.... well, let's just say "urban". Not so dangerous that you should fear for your life. But you might bump into some smelly panhandlers or a pickpocket or two. But that being the case, the area is considered very "hip". Lots of "cool" indie-band loving people living around there, a few dinky fake-old-man bars, etc. You'll have a good time, just keep you're eyes open and tell the freaks to buzz off. As far as hotels nearby, none that I know of. Your best bet is to find a cheap hotel near downtown (try the Greektown area) and cab it there. I would recommend public transportation (it's cheaper) but it doesn't sound like you're ready for that. Source(s): http://www.congresschicago.com/eventslis... Other Travel Tips The "other answer" mentioned above must have been deleted. The Congress Theater is "in the hood." There are no recommended hotels nearby. A cabride will get you there best. You will probably be searched at entry so bring a bag that's easy to open. |
