Cultural Diversity in Chicago...? |
Travel Info For people living in Chicago or have lived in Chicago for a few years, what are the ethnic composition of the city? As far as your approximate percentage...like 60% black...40% white...something along those lines. In particular I'm curious to know the Asian composition. Are there alot of Japanese people there, is there like a Japan-town type of place...? Any information on the cultural make up of the city would be helpful. Travel Tips Chicago's Japanese community has largely left the city proper. You will, however, find the community moved into the suburbs, such as in Arlington Heights. Regarding East Asian cultures, Chicago's Chinese and Korean communities are far larger. You will find those communities present in the city proper as well as in the suburbs. The websites below might prove useful to you. Source(s): JASC http://www.jasc-chicago.org/comassess.ht... Japan Festival 2007 http://www.japanfest-chicago.org/... Other Travel Tips 2005 Chicago Demographics: Total Population: 2,870,000 Black or African American: 1,000,000 (34.8%) White NonHispanic: 850,702 (29.6%) Hispanic or Latino: 831,253 (29%) Other Population: 565,562 (19.7%) Asian: 141,890 (4.9%) http://chicago.about.com/b/a/257584.htm... There's Chinatown on the south side of the city. There's a train stop off the red line that goes down there. Our neighbors are of Asian decent. We live on the far north side of the city, but they head down there all the time to eat and shop. As far as composition, I'm not 100% sure. The guy who posted the stats above looks on target. |
