What are the cheapest hotels within a short distance of Chicago's McCormick Place? |
Travel Info The most important thing is safety, I don't care if I'm sleeping in a room the size of a closet. Secondly, I want something within a walk or short (w/i 30 min) bus/train/taxi ride to the Convention Center. I don't know the cityreal well, so if you don't know the specifics of the place, the hotel name will suffice. I can look the rest up on google. Travel Tips Try the Essex Inn. It's on Michigan Ave. in sight of McCormick Place. There is a free shuttle, but I don't know if it stops at McCormick. Walking is possible from the Essex. Others I dont know specifics on hotels - but try priceline.com. As a general rule for safety - stay somewhere that is either downtown or on the north side of the city, closer to the lake. It's easy to get anywhere in the city, if you're trying to figure out how, check out chicagotransitauthority.com Well, there's the Club Quarters Central Loop hotel in the middle of downtown. If you book on Orbitz it's only $99 a night. Not sure if that's still too much for you, but it sounds like a good price for a downtown hotel. There's a new English style pub in the hotel and free wi-fi. If you want to really go on the cheap, you could stay at a Hostel downtown. It's only about $35 a night. It's a cheap, clean easy way to travel that's used by a lot of young foreigners when they visit Chicago. Both places have easy access to McCormick place... maybe one or two bus rides. There are a few hotels that are closer, withing walking distance, but they cost a lot more. The bus is only $2 and may take about 15-20 minutes to get there from either place. http://www.orbitz.com/app/shared/pagedef... http://www.hichicago.org/ Both of these options consider your safety: There is a hotel that is connected to McCormick place, it is called the Hyatt Regency McCormick place hotel. Here is the link to their website: http://mccormickplace.hyatt.com/hyatt/ho... The other option you have is to stay at a hotel on Michigan Ave. along the Magnificent Mile or by Millennium Park, and then take the #3 King Drive bus. When you get on, ask the driver, "Does this bus to go to McCormick place?" (If you are on the #3 King Drive bus, then the driver will say "yes." Asking this question will save you from accidentally getting on the wrong bus, since there are many busses that go along Michigan Ave.) The nice part about McCormick place is that it's close to Chinatown. And it's huge! It's also cheaper to stay in a hotel outside of Chicago and take a train in, of course that will take more time, though... I rode past McCormick Place every day on the bus for a semester, and also attended a conference there. |
