What are good neighborhoods in Chicago Illinois.?

Travel Info
i Love Chicago andI wish to go back soon but we need to know the good neighborhoods and the bad neighborhoods can you help me?!?

Travel Tips
How much are you willing to pay for housing? that will be the big determining factor in what the "good neighborhoods" are. I mean if you can afford the Gold Coast, go for it. Can't get much better than that. But if you can only afford to rent a two-bedroom, then you have to adjust your definition of "good" and "bad". I could easily rattle off Lincoln Park, Lakeview, Wrigleyville, River North, etc., but if it's out of your budget, what good will it do you. There are good neighborhoods on the South Side, near West Side, North side, Northwest side, etc. There are also bad neighborhoods on those sides too. I mean, people are always saying that the North side is the better side of town, but they are afraid of Rogers Park, which is on the north side. Give us some idea of what you're looking for and that will determin your answers. Sorry I couldn't be more direct.

Pretty much everything north is good -- Gold Coast, Bucktown, Uptown, Lakeview, Lincoln Park, Wrigleyville, Lincoln Square.

I'm not too familiar with the south side, but it seems like some of those neighborhoods are improving.

Just remember that it's a big city, and there's always potential to run into some wierdos, so you gotta play it safe no matter where you are. Even in the nicer areas.
some decent to good neighborhoods (tend to be pricy):
Hyde Park (S), Portage Park (NW), Edgewater (N), Lincoln Park (N), Lincoln Square (N/NW), Dunning (NW), Archer Heights? (SW), Bridgeview (S), Sauganash (NW, but you'll have to live near the mayor), Jefferson Park (NW), Wrigleyville (N), Wicker Park (N). Rogers Park (N) is still fairly good. Cabrini Green (N) is improving, tho I don't know if I'd move there just yet--it's being gentrified as we speak. South Shore (S) is supposed to be nice. The areas around the Loop--West Loop, South Loop, River North, Streeterville, Gold Coast are booming with condos.
(most are on the north & NW sides as you can see; I'm not very familiar with the south side, but I can tell you it's not all bad.) You probably know this already, but you need to consider other things--who is moving back with you? Family? Kids? If you've got kids, you probably don't want to live near the Loop, for example. But the far NW neighborhoods have nice residential areas.
Come to scope out the neighborhoods beforehand if you can. This is a link of the official neighborhoods (some of the ones I mentioned are sub-neighborhoods):

personal experience & what others have told me
Less expensive but up and coming -- Albany Park, Jefferson Park, Portage Park. By the way, the governor lives in Ravenswood Manor, but that is very pricey.
The up and coming area is west Garfield Park. The property value is already increasing due to some new investments in condo property there. Great location to consider.
I guess it depends what you mean by "good" and how much you're willing to spend. However, if you get a map of Chicago, and draw a big square between the lake, Irving Park, Ashland, and Congress you have areas that are considered pretty established and "good" by almost everyone.

There are a lot of other nice areas too, though. The area around North, Damen, and Milwaukee is great, as is a far north area around Clark and Foster, and the South Loop as far down as Cermak is getting nice, as is Hyde Park, around the University of Chicago.

Generally, the areas to avoid, really, are the far west side and far south sides.
