Lake michigan beach - in chicago? |
Travel Info i would like to take my gf to the beach of lake michigan in chicago and enjoy the sun, water, and sand. then have a nice romantic candle lit dinner on the beach. where is a good place that is some what secluded along the lake that i could goto? where can i park if i preferably want the car to be close so i can run and get the dinner to surprise her? also, am i allowed to bring food, alcoholic drinks, and lighters/candles to the beach? is there a site that i could possibly look up a map of good places along the lake for this and other information? i am not very familiar with chicago... Travel Tips This time of year, there really is no "secluded" area of the lake. You could take her to Montrose Harbor and in particular the area where the boats enter and leave the lake I suppose. There really isn't a beach there, only the area where the boats dock. But it's probably one of the most underused areas and it has a great view of the city skyline. But as far as sand and beaches go, most of them get crowded on the weekend. If you want seclusion, try going during the week. If you chose to picknick on the grass near Montrose Harbor, you can park very close by. It's a little difficult to get to (you have to sort of drive around and find the area where the boats dock. If you pass a little bait shop, you're going in the right direction.) but if you find it, you can park right on the path. Take note: it gets very crowded on the weekends very early. If you plan on doing this, either go on a weekday or get there early in the morning. Arriving at dinner time might be tricky, You can bring food but no booze into Chicago parks. Of course, people sneak booze in (ahem)... I suppose you can bring candles. haven't seen a rule against it. And with all of the marijuana smoke I smell in the park, I'm guessing matches and lighters are ok (actually people always use them to light their barbecue grills). I can't think of too many other possible places to find a secluded spot for dinner that won't be overrun with people. This is Chicago, city of millions. When it gets warm on the weekends, people flock to the lake and the lakefront parks. You could go up to Evanston; there are some secluded spots there. But since you're not familiar with Chicago, I'm not going to suggest you head up there. It might be even more difficult to navigate. Others google chicago beaches, it should take you to the city's park district website. I know several friends who go to illinois state beach up north. not sure how secluded they will be tho, chicago is a big city and lots of people go to the beach. but it is a very romantic idea. good luck to you. There are very few areas of the beachfront along the city from the museums all the way north that are very secluded. I'd recommend driving along Lake Shore Drive sometime before your date, exiting at the various park area exits, until you find a spot that suits your needs. Alcohol is technically not permitted along the beach but everyone generally ignores that rule as long as you're discreet. There are very nice garden and scenic areas near the lakeside area of Lincoln Park Zoo that you might want to check out. Here are several sites that give information about what you can do at the lake for a tourist. The last link has maps and other helpful information. You can call them to and ask questions. This should at least get you started. Have a good time, hope everything goes as planned. http://www.chicagofishinglinks.com/lakem... http://www.great-lakes.net/tourism/circl... http://wikitravel.org/en/chicago... http://www.undercovertourist.com/united-... |
