95th ST L train red line safe at daytime? |
Travel Info Is it safe at daytime for a person to chicago taking bus to hammond IN taking in the daytime only i just wonder is the 95th st safe in the daytime from 12 to 7 pm taking bus 34 south and 119th northbound buses back to Chicago from Hammond by the gas station. Travel Tips There's been trouble there all times of day, but it'll probably be Ok during the day, particularly because the kids are going to be out of school. That is when most of the trouble happens when all of the kids from the nearby high schools and elementary schools converge on the station. They can get loud, rude and yes, fights will occasiuonally break out between rival gangs. But if you're taking it in the next few days or weeks, it should be OK, because there's no school. As for the bus, can't vouch for that. Never rode that bus, but I'm guessin it's a LOOOOOONG ride. Why don't you take Amtrak. You can catch a train downtown that will take you right to Hammond (http://www.amtrak.com/servlet/contentser... Depending on when you leave, the fare is either $5 or $9 one way. Give Amtrak a call. It'll be a lot faster and easier than taking that long ride to 95th, and then a long bus ride to Hammond. Others Their gonna getcha!! As safe as anywhere else. not really but if thats ur only means of transportation, then what can you do.. Where in Hammond are you going and where is your starting point? 95th and State Street Red Line is not bad during the daytime...just be careful. Besides Amtrak, there are other alternatives to getting to Hammond from downtown. The first is to take the Metra Electric from the Millenium Station to 93rd Street South Chicago ($2.15 fare). Then board a #30 Bus Southbound to 106th and Ewing Avenue where you can board a Hammond Transit Bus...this takes you into Hammond/Whiting Indiana and you can go from there. Another alternative is to get on the South Shore Line and take that to the Hammond Station. I'm not entirely sure which buses run down there but if you click the link for the Hammond Transit which you can see below, you can see where you need to go. Good luck getting to your destination....if you are coming from the downtown area, I hope you can find these alternatives easier. http://www.gohammond.com/web/index.php?i... (Hammond Transit) http://www.metrarail.com (Metra) http://www.nictd.com/ (South Shore Line) http://www.transitchicago.com/ (CTA Bus Link) Try not to travel at night and always with someone--stay very alert, during the day--take the same precautions. Be safe. Crime rate very high-day or night. |
