I live in Chicago, and my job relocated me to the northside 1800 spaulding area, what type of neighborhood is? |
Travel Info that? Is it a good area? I am asking because if I decide to stay with this position I will consider moving to the area. As we all know Chicago is fairly still segregated, is there a group that wouldn't fair well there? any input appreciated. Im going friday to check it out so i will know where im going when i make the move. Travel Tips I think that area is called Humboldt Park, I know that area are mostly puerto ricans and mexicans and blacks. I live in chicago too. Others Get in the car and circle around in the morning. You know your own hang ups. Lots of the segregation in Chicago is falling. The South Loop area, which used to be overwhelmingly African American is now a mixed commiunity with condos, lofts, new restaurants, etc. The west side down Madison was formerly full of run down buildings now has the same thing. 1800 Spaulding is in transition too. It's kinda far west from the Loop. It's a heavily Puerto Rican area but there are single people and families of different nationality moving in. it's not too far from Humboldt Park. I've been other there a few times (I have a few Puerto Rican friends) and usually stop in the park and hit these mobile carts they have there that sell the BEST Puerto Rican food, and I haven't had any trouble tere. I've even been there for the annual Puerto Rican parade and carnival. Your best bet would be to go check it out in the daytime AND night. It has had some trouble at times and in certain sport, so do a thorough check. It shouldn't be too bad though. That would be the Humboldt Park area. Two major gangs both of which are Latin types. The old Stone Greaser gang called "The Gaylords" tried to hang on but they are mostly all gone now. Get up on any Sunday morning early and drive around the area. And the above post about Chicago losing it's segregation is not true. The areas that are being restored are being done mainly by White yuppies with money. Chicago is still the most segregated city in America. |
