What are good neighborhoods in Chicago? Ones to stay away from?

Travel Info
I was wondering which neighborhoods have a lower crime rate and are nice to live in and which ones to avoid.

Travel Tips
Good Chicago neighborhoods....Lincoln Park, Wicker Park, Wrigleyville, Andersonville, to name a few...those are all northside..
You may have heard the southside is all bad.. NOT true.. areas like Hyde Park and Garfield Ridge near Midway Airport are nice..
Others
closer to the great lakes the better.
Oak Brook is very nice but stay away from the Loop in the city of Chicago.
Irving Park is a nice, family-oriented neighborhood. It offers a variety of housing options, from single-family homes to walk-ups to mid-rise apartment buildings. I lived within 3/4 mile of the train stop, so it was an easy walk. You can get on either the commuter rail or the "L" subway. And it's easy to get on the Kennedy Expy.
I used to live there.
Someone said stay away from the Loop, not true. The Loop is in the downtown area, so you have many buildings and of course the people who beg. This is pretty much in any big city in the downtown area. There are nice apartments in the surrounding areas of the Loop (West Loop, South Loop). These areas have nice apartments, condos and lofts etc, mostly condos and loft apartments for sale though.

Other areas:

Lincoln Park
Andersonville
Lakeview and such are nice.

Hyde Park, South Loop is on the Southside of Chicago. The further south you go the more urban it becomes which of course comes with a mixture of good and bad. The same for the Westside, which is hardly mentioned these days. I guess it does not count. Lol.

In general, when people say Chicago, they think the Northside (whites mainly) and Southside (blacks mainly).

Chicago is a very segregated city. If you are white, you will probably be more comfortable on the northside, especially if you are a yuppie, attorney, bike rider, rollerblader, and the likes (lol). However, if you want to stay on the Southside you will probably be more comfortable staying in the South Loop (mainly whites) area or Hyde Park (very diverse). You also have the Beverly area that is comprised of whites and blacks but it is not by a beach or downtown.

Oh I almost forgot, the Bronzeville area is an area on the Southside that whites are moving back to. There are still quite a number of blacks there but it is changing now. This area is not far from the South Loop area, it鈥檚 close to beaches and express ways.

It depends on what you are looking for.
Chicago Crime.org (http://www.chicagocrime.org/). Is probably the best website to see what crimes occur in which neighborhoods. Crime occurs EVERYWHERE in Chicago, but there are some places that have higher crime rates than others. This website lets you see crimes by neighborhood, by type of crime, etc.
