Chicagoans is it possible to swim in the Lake Michigan? |
Travel Info Is there some kind of coast or what? Thanks = ) Travel Tips Of course! There's plenty of beaches. In my opinion the best one is Montrose Beach, which is separated by a huge park filled with trees and fields. There, you can walk out quite far into the water before the water gets deep and get an amazing view of the cities architecture. For some reason a lot of people scour when the idea of going swimming comes up. These are usually the same people that scour at the idea of using public bathrooms or eating outdoors. In comparison to other bodies of water in North America, the lake has a very low e-coli count and is much less polluted than what other people are saying here. If there ever is even a slight concern about the water quality, the beaches are immediately closed. They are also cleaned DAILY, which cannot even be said for most private resort beaches. If you want to avoid crowds on weekends or "perfect beach days", you can take a trip up to Evanston and swim in their "pay beaches". I believe it's $6 for a day's admission on a private beach with much more life guards and much less people. If you decide to swim late in the day, a lot of times cute small fish will come hang out by you if you're wearing a bright bathing suit. You can even pick them up! However if you notice this, make sure your pockets are empty before leaving the water. Sometimes they like to hang out in your swim trunk pockets, oddly. The lake isn't that cold after early-June. The buoys read a temperature a couple miles off-shore where the water is very deep. Where the water is shallow, it can sometimes seem TOO warm in the hottest of days. Usually you can expect between 65F and 75F throughout the summer days in any area you'd swim in. Additionally you can rent everything from jet skis to kayaks to windsurfing boards along the coast. My only warning is to be careful when the waves are above 3 or 4ft. Lake Michigan has a large "falloff", which means that there's an underwater cliff a couple miles off shore. This can cause a very strong undertow or riptide during a windy or stormy period when the waves are high. Have fun! Others lots of people swim in the lake. best bet is to check out one of the beaches. today's a great day to go! bring your sunscreen! Yes you can swim in Lake Michigan. Mostly off the beaches where there are life guards. There is a area of rocks tho that alot of people swim from. Be careful tho that is dangerous. It sure is possible!! If I were you, though, I'd wait until August because the water may be a bit cold right now. Here's a link to all the beaches.. http://cpdit.com/resources/beaches/index... Yea, but It might be cold鈽烩€尖樆 It is just a lake. However, parts of it have beaches, which means sand and the attractions that come with it. Towels, tanners, volleyball players, all this runs from Oak Street up. After a few miles of this it turns into a cement pier. up to and including Fullerton. (named for the street and beach) From Oak to Fullerton you will find benches for resting, grass, trees sidwalks for rollarblading, bicycling, jogging. The water is usually cold, by August it is usually around 63 degrees at its warmest. There are no slides or water sports but further out you will see a boating, and skiing. I am embarrased to say the when you get to the cement pier, most of the water is polluted with debris from the tourists. Such as bottles, paper, things like that. There are ducks in the area that like to be fed. Usually the singles like the pier for privacy and friends and family head for Oak Street Beach with has the sand and more entertainment privledges. Sure, at the beach. Its cold now but in late July and August its nice. |
