Are you guys (CHICAGO residents) sick of all the shootings and gun violence in our city? |
Travel Info I know there is violence no matter where you go, but it seems to me that, whenever summer hits in our fair city, the guns come out even more. No one that I'm extremely close to has been affected (unless you count an acquaintance of mine that was shot while hanging out on his front porch last week). I'm just really sick of all of it. I wanna know if everyone else feels the same way I do, and what are some of the ways that WE as members of society can help solve this problem? What is the wake-up call that will finally get everyone's attention and get them motivated to take action to stop this madness. 33 schoolkids have been gunned down so far this year in our city. I would like to see the number stop there. Tell me what you guys think. Also, please give an answer even if you live in another city/state. Travel Tips yeah, it sucks. As a mother it's really scarry. I have a 10 year old son and I make it apoint to talk to him and I have a very good relationship with him. But I don't understand how parents can misguide their children soo badly that they end up trying to kill eachother. How can you not know that your child is in a gang. It's a very sad reality innocent people are getting killed everyday. Others 33?? that is a shocking number. I live in london, where there has been an increase in gun crime in recent times, and it's sick. I'm sure most people feel the same way as you, but unfortunately little is done to combat this problem, and what is done doesn't seem to be working very well...I don't think there will be a 'wake-up call'. So many bad things have happened...and still no change. I know this will sound racist and I don't mean it that way at all but in my city 90% of murders are Black on Black, and most are under the age of 25. Whats the answer? I don't know. Many are drug related and/or gang related. I grew up in Chicago and lived in the East Garfield park area that is now crime infested. I just couldn't raise my kids in that environment so I relocated. Having grown up in this wonderful city it makes me so very sad to see what has become of our neighborhoods and what our children must go through daily just trying to get an education. Which, by the way, is the best deterrent - STAY IN SCHOOL! I know a number of these murders have been done by kids who have dropped out of school (sometimes recently). I agree I live in Chicago all of my life (I was born in Chicago and he havent lived in another state except traviling) and 5 times our car has been stollen from including my ipod video. Even at my little sisters elementary school there is graffitti on the playground! They even hade to have a meeting when someone tried to kidnappe a kid I mean this is getting ridicoulus! And I like to sleep in on weekends but since I live in the city were most of the action is in Chicago usually you can wake up to people screaming and robberies. All the violence is getting stupid! My brother got mugged twice, my freinds mom got mugged 7 times. People see Chicago as a nice place that is clean and good for visiting but sometimes its not. People get hurt and killed from gang shootings! I live in Chicago Now, I'm scared because I wanted to go in Chicago! |
