Travel Info I am moving to Chicago and im from California. What can i do to prepare myself for the cold weather? Travel Tips Well, you dont have to worry about that too much right now, since its summer. But in the winter, chicago can be brutal. Get a nice thick heavy down coat. And gloves are a must, or else your hands will freeze. When i moved to Chicago, i made the mistake of not buying gloves because i figured i wouldnt need them. Dead wrong. In the coldest weather, even a short walk outside is enough to start numbing your hands. You will need lots of lotion and chapstick, as your hands/skin and lips will get very very dry. You will need shoes that dont have too many holes or arent too low, so snow cant get in. Uggs are warm and nice. Some warmer clothing too. Long sleeved shirts, sweaters, etc. I think thats basically all. :) Source(s): I live in chicago. :) Other Travel Tips learn the value of layered clothing, long underwear and an ice scraper with built-in-glove buy a coat and go stand in the freezer section of a super market for 3 hour living in chicago all i got to say is worry about the cold when it gets here, but none the less it's simple. In fall I usually go with a light jacket, sweatshirt or hoodie. Winter is when the fun comes, I where a heavy winter coat on the really cold days otherwise i go with a winter coat that isn't so bulky. Also the key to staying warm if your outside for extended periods is wearing layers so in case you do get warm you can take it off. Another easy way to stay warm is to wear a hat. You should also get gloves, it is quite easy to get frostbite. Have a daily dose of vitamin C , to boost the body's Thermal regulating System To save on luggage, get what you need there. A parka, heavy coat, some sweaters, layering, mostly common sense. You don;t have to spend a ton of money, there's lots of stores in all price ranges, last, but not least, Walmart. |
