Not many are still being used by farmers. You should have no problem finding what you want. There are not however, many or any in Vernon Hills. It is a fairly recent "boomtown" with subdivisions, condos and townhouse complexes.

Lake County and even southern Wisconsin were primarily agricultural areas and still have many farmhouses. Your commute will not be that far but a little long due to some narrow roads connecting outlying communities.
