Where can I find the best magazine shop in Chicago? |
Travel Info I'm looking for something similar to "Smoke Signals" in San Francisco w/ a good selection of European and Asian fashion and home decorating magazines. While I love the shopping here in Chicago on the whole...this is one thing I've yet to find. Please don't answer w/ Borders, or Barnes and Noble (or similar)...they don't have the titles I'm looking for. Also, can anyone tell me why I smell a really strong sent of chocolate in the air?? I'm staying in the West Loop if that helps?? TIA Travel Tips Well, the scent of chocolate means you're near the Blommers Chocolate factory in the northwest area of downtown, 600 W. Kinzie. If you go over there, you'll see chocolate on the ground... not pieces of chocolate, but chocolate power that falls from the railroad cars that brings it in. They also have a small shop inside that sells chocolate stuff to the public Now as far as places that sell foreign magazines, the best is unfortunately the one furthest away from downtown: City News Stand. They have two locations, one in Evanston at 860 Chicago, and one at 4018 N. Cicero. The one in Evanston is probaby the easiest to get to. Just take the Red Line CTA train all the way north to the end of the line (howard), stay on the platform and wait for the Purple Line train north to Evanston. Ride it a short way to the Main street stop, get off walk downstairs, to the end of the block north and there is it. They have almost every magazine available, more than 6,000 titles. You can also try Europa Books at 832 N. State St. They specialize in foreign magazines. And if you want Asian magazines, try J. Toguri, a Japanese shop on Belmont and Clark Street on the north side of the city. They have Asian magazines, books, etc. Unfortunatly, unless you read the language, you might be in trouble.
