Why do so many people move from Chicago to Phoenix? |
Travel Info They're such different cities. One has a huge lake, the other is bone dry. One has a tremendous downtown, the other is a sprawling suburb. One is walkable, the other is not. One is flat, the other is mountainous. Yet there are so many Chicagoans who move there. What's the appeal? Travel Tips Interesting question. Having lived in both places (35 yrs in Chicago, 2 mos in Phoenix on business), the weather is definitely a factor. Noticed a lot of Chicago culture established down there. Rosati's has a few outlets to get a deep-dish pizza or an Italian beef sandwich. The Cubs and White Sox both train there in the spring. Makes it easier for a Chicagoan to migrate down there. Others Have you been in Chicago in January and February? It saps your will to live after a few years. :-) Seriously though, as a long time Chicagoan the appeal of warm to hot 12 months out of the year grows each year. Even if you have to put up with sprawl to get it. No better place to be in the summer than Chicago though! http://www.weather.com/outlook/travel/bu... http://www.weather.com/outlook/travel/bu... Maybe the very contrast is the appeal. They want to move somewhere different. If all they desired were the things that make Chicago what it is, they probably wouldn't want to move. people get sick of the chicago winters I moved to Arizona in 1993 and am still asking my self, why? Hot boring boring and over rated!! I really have no idea... I live in Chicago and I have family in Arizona...and like you said...very very verrrrrrrrry different...Arizona just isn't appealing to me...of course unless, it's november,december,january,febr... march and sometimes april or late october. :P |
