Travel Tips
Try out Chipmunk麓s in Lincoln Park-close to Sheridan and Diversy. I used to live a block away from there, and liked their hot dogs.

Of course, you have to go to Weiner Circle in Lincoln Park-corner of Wrightwood and Clark. Just be careful of the people behind the counter-they scream at you and it麓s really entertaining to hear what they scream.

Portillo's. Hot Diggity. Superdawg. And I know your researching specifically Hot Dog places, but if you have the chance go to Potbelly for a sandwich.
There's the Weiner Circle on Clark Street near Diversey, Super Dawg on the Northwest Side (it's an old school hot dog joint with speakers mounted on poles and waitresses who bring the food out to you and hang it on the window. Gold Coast Dogs on Canal Street and there's one on Wabash too, I believe. Portillo's on West Ontario street. Mustard's Last Stand in Evanston near Northwestern U. (OK, not exactly in Chicago but you can get there on the el train).

You might want to look up into on the late, lamented Demon Dogs that used to be under the Fullerton El tracks near DePaul. It was a classic place and I'm sure there is info on it on the web somewhere.
Best hot dogs in the Chicagoland area is without a doubt, Portillos. That place is great. They have tons of other stuff too, like ribs, chicken, hamburgers... Its a dream come true for people who love American food.

Ask most people in Chicagoland, and they will reccomend Portillos. I dont know if theres any in the loop though, theyre more prominent in the southwest suburbs.
hmmmmmm....... portillos. for sure.
There is one in the loop called D's Diggity Dogs roughly on the corner of Columbus and Ohio. It is in a small little house. It is a small mom and pop stand. Good food for the price.
Ok. The people that answered before me do not live in the city. Portillo's is AWESOME, however, you aren't going to find one in the city. I suggest Wrigleyville hot dogs. OMG. They are so Chicago. Just remember to find a place that puts all the ingredients on it and you will be fine. Mustard, relish, peppers, a pickle spear, cucumber and celery salt. ABSOLUTELY NO KETCHUP. It's kindof a sin here.
