Taste of Chicago - Fireworks? Where is the best beach to view and bring your own alcohol? |
Travel Info I don't want to get caught in the huge crowd to watch the fireworks...So, I want to view them from one of the North side beaches (i.e. Oak Street beach). Can I bring a cooler full of booze on the beach? Where would be the best beach - sort of away from the crowd to view the fireworks with my girl friend? Where at, exactly, are the fireworks shot from? I know from the lake, but approximately near what street or landmark? thanks, Travel Tips Booze is not allowed on Park District property, which includes the beaches, etc. But of course people break that rule. Just think you should know before you lug out a cooler full of booze. A cop could realistically confiscate it if he or she wanted to. So my advice: If you're going to do it, be discreet. That being said, anyplace where you can get a good view of the fireworks is going to be crowded. There won't be too many isolated spots where you and your sweety can snuggle up. This is Chicago. There will be a million people in the near vacinity of the fireworks alone. Expect crowds in most of the nearby places. YOu can probably get a good view of the fireworks as far north as Fullerton. After than, because of the way the lakeshore goes in and out, I'm not sure you can see them any further north. You can try the NOrth Ave. Beach. But get there early... like RIGHT NOW! People have been staking out spots since 8 this morning. I saw them on the way to work. If you haven't made your move yet, plan on watching them on television. At least they're in high def this year... I believe the fireworks are shot from a small outcrop of land between Grant Park and Navy Pier, downtown. Others Diversey Harbor. Leave the alcohol behind. Although, in my experience, a plastic thermos of lemonaide with vodka was never discovered, but you didn't hear that from me. |
