Can I drive in Chile with my California DL? |
Travel Info If I travel to Chile and rent a car, can I use my CA DL or should I go somewhere down there and ask for a temporary permit? Travel Tips You're in luck -- when renting a car in Chile, you CAN use your American driver's license (providing it's valid, of course, and you're still living in the states.)You'll also need a credit card and, more than likely, your passport. You'll also find that the age limit for renting a car in Chile varies from company to company (Hertz and Budget, for example, require you to be 22 years old, while Econorent requires you to be 24. For what it's worth, Alameda Rent-a-Car appears not to HAVE an age restriction, so this might be useful to you if you're 21 or younger!) Good luck, and have a wonderful trip! Other Travel Tips well how can I compete with Travelocity?!?!?!? or a Gnome? anywho, since that is official i will consider that correct.......however typically you need to go down to your local government and get an international driver's license (which you just need to pay for it and no test since you have a valid CA DL) .....but the international driver's license is valid for 1 year. parent's drove in Austria I lived in Chile from 98-2000 and we were able to drive with our licenses as long as they weren't expired. I had a buddy have his expire and he had to go take their drive test. If you have an accident though don't be surprised if they take you to the police station for an alcohol test.
