Travel Tips
Yes, first make sure you find a western hotel like a Marriott or the Four Points hotel and get someone who speaks english. Have them help you with getting a cell phone with local # and plenty of minutes. Have them put their number in and take your cell #. Also, if you are a male, keep your passport and wallet in your front pocket, like jeans. don't dress like a tourist, avoid street salesmen, saleswomen/beggars - they watch and if you give a dime, many will come and follow you if you are by yourself and prey on you. Depending on how long you will be in SZ, go to Jusco it is in City Plaza, go to Service Desk and ask for either Sunny or Olivia and they both speak pretty good english compared to many there who don't. - pretty decent with shopping for some western things, they have a great french "croissant" bakery, with really good yourkshire pudding, and croissants, and breads. Also, at the other end of the mall one level up, take the escalator and head out the door and you will see a Haagen Daas, and Starbucks, manager's name is Maggie Ma, number is 755-2594-1302 they speak English very well there. Next to it is a Pizza Hut, not like what we see in USA, but a really nice dining restaurant. Drink only bottled water like C'estbon or Ganten available at almost any little market, and of course at Jusco. You will need your passport as ID if you use your bankcard for purchases.
Take taxis, and - this is why I recommend the cell phone and english speaking contact - call him/her and tell where it is you want to go, give the phone to the taxi driver, and he/she will tell the driver and you are set to go. Good idea to carry at least a few hundred rmb, some small ones like 50,20,10,5 and 1 dollar coins for miscellaneous. Remember, you are always being watched, you won't know it, but you are - be aware of your possesions and surroundings at all times.
If you are having difficulty witht he food, try the buffet at Four Points, or go to a Raindrops Cafe, great steaks excellent prices. Other than that, wear comfy clothes, sunglasses, dress casual, good walking shoes and that's it for now. If you have any questions, please ask - I am in SZ at the moment.

care ur own blonging on the street..and do bargain when u purchasing in markets...really cheap ...good luck ..
When you traveling to down town mind your belonging, don't put important stuff in the backpack; like your passport, wallet, and any valuable. put your wallet n your passport in the front pocket of your jeans or put your hand in it, the thief are smarter than you so don't flash your money in the public area, when your traveling alone try to learn the basic Mandarin or Cantonese, do barging when you shop in the market like Louhu, Dongmen or Hua Qiang Bei, when you outing at night leave your passport in the hotel and just bring the copy with you or follow the above,http://www.shenzhenparty.com other than that have a good journey.
