How's the air quality in Hong Kong Island during the summer? |
Travel Info I've heard from numerous sources that a person can barely breathe outside during the summer. Is it really as bad as they claim? If it's going to be very difficult to breathe, any tips for some relief outdoors? Travel Tips Very hot & humid. It's not so bad to the point where you can't breathe. There's pollution in HK Island alright, but the air is a little better in the Southern District. Others it is not that bad. pollution is bad, but not that worse. we still can go to beach to enjoy the sun, and there are some mountain and outdoor actiivites you still can do. from hong kong Don't worry. I know CPR. Call me when you get to HK, and I'll look after you. The quality will vary in different parts of the island. The rural south side will fair much better than the downtown north side on HK island. In the summer, temperature regularly hits 90 F with 80%+ humidity. If you are in the crowded areas with high traffic and surrounded by tall buildings, add in the heat and pollution from the vehicle exhaust and air conditioning units. It's more than many people can bare. So it's either you avoid the period between 11am-5pm in the open (indoor shopping time !)or seek refuge at the beaches like Repulse Bay on the southern parts of the island. It's EXTREMELY hot! The only time I go to HK is during the summer and somedays I don't even feel like taking a step outside. The pollution is bad but I'm used to it because New York's pollution is bad too. |
