Worth waiting to buy camera in Beijing/Shanghai?

Travel Info
I'm going to China for a year starting september. I guess my question is whether its cheaper to buy a digital camera in Beijing or Shanghai or are the prices going to be the same as european prices.
Thanks!

Travel Tips
Do not wait to buy a camera or any electronics equipment in China unless you are acquainted in some way with the person you are buying from.

Meaning, you have a reliable introduction to them from someone you trust.

Otherwise they have no reason not to take advantage of you. Electronics are not things like clothing, etc. you don't know the quality inside and your satisfaction is not part of their business interests.

The Chinese say: 瀹充汉涔嬪績涓嶅彲鏈夛紝闃蹭汉涔嬪績涓嶅彲鏃犮€?br /> the meaning is basically "don't hurt others but be weary of others."

You will be taken advantage of if you give the opportunity.

Unfortunately, it's simply the stark reality of this society.

Spend a little more in you home country and enjoy your trip! Source(s): 20 years in China.
Other Travel Tips
For one digital camera it does not worth you wait until you go to China,
but if you would buy many for business there would be a big difference , i mean price.
And if you plan to use it for long time , buy it in EU ;)
Is this going to be a camera you kep for a few years and use often? If yes, then research the options you want and buy it before you leave.
Beijing and/or ShangHai would not be my first choice for electronics shopping in general, unless I was trying to get by with a cheap version for a short amount of time, or was worried about the safety of my possessions.
Buy one before you go. It's definitely possible to buy a camera you can count on in China, but it'll cost the same as it would in Europe. You can find good deals on cheap electronics in China, but you often get what you pay for. There's no guarantee that a cheap camera wont' break, and cheap electronics typically don't have a service plan or warranty to back you up.
You need to negotiate right. I believe you can get decent prices of digital cameras compared to the EU. I always compare to US prices and they are slightly cheaper here in the States (i.e. at Wal-mart).

Still Shanghai & Beijing have some really nice electronic malls with some of the newest stuff available. You can also get some Chinese brand gadgets, cheaper but quality maybe suspect. Depends on what you are looking for.
