Are electronics cheaper in hong kong? and if so how much cheaper? |
Travel Info Are electronics cheaper in hong kong? and if so how much cheaper? Travel Tips Generally, yes, most electronics in HK are cheaper bec. of the tax and duty-free status. If you want to find very good deals, go to Apliu Street Flea Market in Sham Shui Po, on the Kowloon Side. Mostly what they're selling there are second hand gadgets but some are brand new. Other places that you might wanna go are Sai Yeung Choi St., Mong Kok, & Tsim Sha Tsui. All are located on the Kowloon Side. Just added: By the way, about the guy that said something about Chungking Mansions in Tsim Sha Tsui... I suggest please be very, extremely careful when buying there. Yes, it's true that gadgets are way, way cheaper, but that's just bec. most of the products sold there are either fakes, counterfeits, or products of very low quality. Chungking Mansions houses many low-income people in Hong Kong (and sometimes people who live in Hong Kong illegaly) those who came from South Asia (Indians, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis, etc.). But there are some stores there that I can guarantee you that sells legit products. Just be careful when shopping there, OK? Source(s): Went to HK last April Other Travel Tips many items are cheaper. probably about half the price at most. not only are electronics cheaper but instruments and other things are too! Sir i am living in hong Kong.in hong Kong if u r looking for electronics there r cheap and expensive it depends from which area u r buying if u buy electronics for TSIM SHA TSUI Chung king mansion u can buy electronice item in very reasonable prize compare with other areas. Thanks I think electronics prices are cheaper in Hong Kong then the States. From 50%-30% cheaper depending on the item due to lower taxes and import cost. The cheapest place to get computers and accessories is in Sham Shui Po "Golden Computer Mall." Mongkok is also a great place to get electronics. I would not advise to get electronics in areas like Tsim Sha Tsui because it is a pricey and tourist area. Everything there is much more expensive even after you bargin down the jacked up price. It is cheaper to go to local areas to shop.I am a Conservative shopper in HK. Cheaper than the US, yes, but if you have time to cross the border into Mainland China, I've yet to find anything in Hong Kong that beats the prices in Guangzhou. Heard stories about good shopping in Shenzhen too but I don't have personal experience with that. Also, if you buy something in Hong Kong, be careful. Lots of tourists buy things thinking they're real and get fakes. In general, they are cheaper than Europe and North America. For authentic items, 20% or so. For knock offs, 50-70% discount to the original items. HK is best for smaller gadgets like handsets, MP3, laptops and games while Zhengzhen to the north is best for home electronic like sound systems, home theatres and DVD players etc. e.g. An individual DVD player is as low as US$15 and a home theatre 5.1 system with DVD player starts at US$150. |
