What is the currency name of china? |
Travel Info What is the currency name of china? Travel Tips The national currency of China is called "ren min bi". It literally means "the people's currency". It is referred to as "yuan", which is the most traditional measure word for the largest single unit of currency in the Chinese language. In China, the yuan follows the same idea as the dollar. In the colloquial language it is also referred to as "kuai", also a measure word used for things that can come in pieces like wood, cake, etc. The RMB (Ren min bi) is divided into a system that sticks to the denominations of the dollar nearly perfectly. The denominations of the currency are: yuan = dollar mao (also called "jiao") = dime fen = penny Obviously the value is not the same but the denomination is, so that way it is easy to figure out. Paper RMB comes in the following denominations: 100 50 20 10 5 1 The mao (jiao) comes in: 1 2 5 The fen comes in: 1 2 5 Two 5 mao (like .50) are equal to one yuan. Two 5 fen (like .05) are equal to one mao. Source(s): Spending RMB for 20 years. Other Travel Tips It's called the Yuan (RMB). It's abreviation is "RMB" because mainland China refers to its currency as "renminbi"(浜烘皯骞?), and the "r","m", and "b" are the first letters of each character when written in English. RMD = reminbi it means "peole's currency" You'll also see it on some online currency conversion calculators as CNY or Chinese yuan. And, common slang for the currency in China is "kuai." I don't know the character for that, sorry. But it's very common in a shop to be quoted the price in "kuai" or "yuan" but in nearly a year no one in spoken Mandarin has ever referred to it to me as "renminbi," that seems only to be an official designation for use in the banks. I just came back from china an it was refered as Yuan in most parts but in shanghai and other southern parts they started calling it RMB. Most people will understand both. In fact most stores will show you the amount and say "chinese money". So you know is their money and not dollars. its yuan rmb - reminbi |
