Hi there, does anyone knows about driving in overseas? |
Travel Info hi there, i have driver license in SC , does anyone know am i able to driving in overseas like HK or China ? do i need to apply any other kind of driver license for driving out of the states? thanks! Travel Tips I am not sure about Hong Kong and China specifically, but you can get an international driver's license which is supposed to give you the privilege to drive anywhere in the world, you only must get a national driver's license there when you have become a permanent resident. Also, most countries have a policy that you may visit their country and use your own driver's license issued in your country for up to 45 days or so. Go to www.travel.state.gov, this us government website has a lot of good information that may help firmly answer your question. Others The following Hong Kong Transportation Dept. website has some info. for overseas drivers in HK... http://www.td.gov.hk/public_services/lic... Here's some info. about driving in China... http://wikitravel.org/en/driving_in_chin... You can go to AAA to apply for an International lincense, then you can use your International license to drive in Hong Kong. (Macau -city next to HK, there is a rule that you need to register your International Lincense with the police department to drive, but you only get a fine for less than $10 USD if you did not do it and get caught. I am not sure HK has this rule as well.) If you are going for a short trip, you should think about using the public transportation instead of driving. HK and China are too crowded, and it is not a easy thing to drive there. The public transportation are cheap and easy to use (Especially HK.) There aren't much price where you can rent a car too. I have an international license, but I was told I can't use it in China. It's really easy to get a driver's license in China though. But I don't recommend you drive there unless you are a really good driver. Not only it's more expensive and more dangerous, it's sometimes even slower than walking due to congestion. you can definatley NOT USE any type of drivers licesnce in mainland China. You must get a temporary Chinese drivers lices good for up to 3 months. In order to get a permant dricers license here oyu must be a resident. The temporary license is not issued every where in China. Only in sellect areas. Beiging Shanghai Guangzhou and possible Shenzhen. good luckk Diving here in a city is a Nightmare. Altoug there is test for the license there are no rules when oyu drive on the street heeheheehe. apply for an international driver's license in your country. I know it takes less than a day |
