Shanghai girls see foreigners as a free bag of money and or a chance for a foreign passport, that's what it comes down to. Their basic attitutde is arrogance (typical to most Shanghainese, women or men), even more than the rest of the Chinese. Keep that in mind but don't let it spoil the fun.

Shanghai is generally a more open and cosmopolitan city than any other in Mainland China . This comes from their history and having been so in touch with the West prior to the Communist overthrow.

Women in that area; Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Suzhou, are said to be the most beautiful of all of China. They say it has something to to with the water, but I think that is just an old wives-tale.

Men in China will take note of women from that area simply from the reputations that have been going around for so long.

Yes, they are open and most likely more Westernized than most places but that is not by any means a standard.

Shanghainese women like to consider themselves "much superior" compared to women from other cities in China. Very often they looked down on others and they tend to stick to their own kind. The more educated and beautiful ones are rather arrogant and think highly of themselves. Most are very materialistic and westernize in their way of dressing and thinking. Having one night stands and affairs with married expat men are the norm for some Shanghainese women. Some foreigners knew that these Shanghainese women are "slutty" and this is true in some ways. Look at most of them in the city!! Many have a white "trophy" hanging on their arms (just like another piece of luxury handbag to them) and it's considered a status thing to these women.

Have many expat male friends who viewed these Shanghainese women as "loose, gold-diggers, pretentious and materialistic. However, to the foreigners, the women are easy if all you want is a short fling or affair.

shanghainese people, in general, are known in china as "frugal and pinchy". even though they are more westernized, they are very un-wasteful, calculative, etc...

but of course, everyone has their own good points... you just have to discover them by yourself!
