Advice on Hong Kong Holiday Please?

Travel Info
I am off to Hong Kong next week and woukld like to know a few things.
Will I get a better rate of exchange in Hong Kong compared to the UK?
I am staying on Lautau Island, would it be expensive to get there from the airport in a Taxi?
What is the temperature at this time of year?
Is there any health advice you can offer?
What medical supplies would you advise I take?
Any other info would be great.
Will resolve at the end of the day, best answer always given.

Travel Tips
The HSBC bank in Hong Kong has very good rates, I would wait to change over there. You can get cash from ATMS for the same rates.

Lantau island is on the same island as the airport, so taxi fare shouldn`t be too bad (proably no more than 20 pounds). You may want to check and see if your hotel has a free shuttle bus.

Watson`s drug store has pretty much anything you need for meds. They are all over the place especially in tourist and upscale districts on Kowloon and Hong Kong Island. If you have travel insurance, you can probably find many English speaking clinics to help you. I am guessing since Disney Land is on Lantau, there are probably plenty of medical services for foreigners. We had no problems healthwise (traveled with Father who has diabetes, Mother, 18 month old child, myself and husband). We found everything we needed and found the health services there better (as far as finding recognizable meds) than Tokyo. HK is quite up to date and many expats live there and I haven`t heard any complaints from anyone I know who lives there about health problems there.

If you are traveling with children, I definately recommend Ocean Park! Very scenic place with lots of amuzement, and not nearly as crowded as HK Disneyland.

Weatherwise, you can expect high humidity, 30-34 degrees C and frequent thunderstorms/rain

Don`t miss a meal at Jumbo floating restaurant in Aberdeen Harbor! Don`t miss the light show at night in Victoria Harbor either! 8:30 every evening. Best place to watch is from Kowloon side. But HK side offers a nice view too..even better, catch a ferry around that time!

Get an octopus card and you can get around quite quickly for transporation and use it at many shops. Basically it is a pre-paid card you can buy and recharge as much as you would like. There is a deposit, which you can get back. Taxis don`t take them but any other form of transport is fine.

Enjoy your trip! Source(s): Traveled to HK last year and know several natives and expats in HK.
