If you like Rock'n'Roll try the bands "Hei Bao" (Black Panther) and "Tang Dai" (Tang Dynasty), they're both from the 90s but still good though not active anymore. Also try Cui Jian, he was once labelled "the Bruce Springsteen of China", judge for yourself if he comes up to this standard. However, good stuff, all 3 of them.

I have found that if you will go to the better book/music stores you can find Cd's with a very large choice of selections. You can review before buying by listening in the store and make your choices with no risk. They sometimes have reviews on the different music styles and instruments used.
It's what I do.
