Is divorce very common in China, especially in big cities like Shanghai?

Travel Info
I was told that divorces are very common and couples will take the "easy" way out of the marriage than rather work on it. Is it true in a country where most of it's citizen are still very traditional and conservative?

Travel Tips
I think divorce is becoming more common in the big cities especially in more modernized cities like Shanghai. Shanghai has the highest divorce rate in all of china. In 2005, 1.78 million couples were divorced and Shanghai had the most with 30,000. It's especially common among the youths who focus more on feelings and emotions rather than focusing on morals and working out the marriage.

There is nothing traditional in the cities anymore. Divorce are now very common, they don't even get married, but they co-habit. Chinese people are still human being. Communism is DEAD in China especially among the local people.
Yes, it's very common among the younger generations nowadays. I knew of one couple who divorced because the wife couldn't get along with her mother-in-law. Who says that Chinese wives are submissive were wrong. In fact, they are "dragon ladies" !!!
Lived in Shanghai for years.
