Travel Info Where is the best shopping place in china?? Travel Tips Technically, Hong Kong is already part of China, although it is still treated a "foreign" country by Mainlanders. Even Hong Kongers think first of themselves first as "Hong Kong Chinese", different from the Mainland Chinese. (This is according to TIME Magazine Asia, June 18 2007 issue) So, now back to the topic. Hong Kong has every kind of stores from flea markets and night markets to uptown shopping malls. The Apliu Street Flea Market in Sham Shui Po is a great place to find brand new and second hand electronics. The Temple Street Night Market in Yau Ma Tei opens at 4pm, but really comes alive after sunset. Sometimes there are fortune tellers there who can speak English, and, ocassionally, impromptu Chinese Opera performances. It's sometimes called Men's Street. For cheap women's wardrobe, go to Ladies Market in Tung Choi Street. If you're lucky enough, you may find cheap children's toys there. There are numerous shopping malls in Hong Kong, although the best tend to congregate in Tsim Sha Tsui and Causeway Bay. Try going to Harbour City and Times Square. It has a wide selection of luxury and international brands. There is also a CityGate Outlet in Tung Chung in Lantau Island. If you have time, try to cross the border and go to Shenzhen, a city in mainland China just near Hong Kong. There is this shopping mall just near the Lo Wu (called Luo Hu in China) border that selles amazingly cheap items. Beware shopping there though because there are many counterfeit, fake and low quality items there. You wouldn't believe it but I think the vendors there are better English speakers than the ones in Hong Kong. That is just my opinion. Hope this helps! It's a shoppers paradise there. They have from extremely cheap flea markets to expensive malls with LV, Prada, and Gucci.
