Is it true that in China you are only allowed to bear one child and if you have another they kill it?

I don't think thats true, but i've heard about it, is it true??

No, that would be horrible! This law was passed in an attempt to control the overpopulation in China (in I think the 1990's). If a family does have a second child, the Chinese government simply imposes an extra tax on that particular family.

They don't kill it, but it is against the law to have more than one child. This is an attempt to solve the over population problem China has.

It is true about the one child policy. Having an abortion is very common in China, but if you do have another child, you gotta be prepared to support your child.
Your allowed 2 children for population control. If the first is a girl, then the second better be a boy otherwise they do kill it in order to allow for another shot at a boy to carry the family name.
The government won't kill it, but you have to pay a fine.

Many families still want to have a male to pass on the family line, so they kill the baby if it's female.
