China family plannig policy? |
Travel Info Is it still in force? Are couples in China only allowed one child, or two in rural areas? What happens if they have more children? Travel Tips Everyone is wrong on most counts. If China had not enacted population control there would be 1.7 billion people living in China, not 1.3 as it is now. That is an increase of more then the USA. The one child rule is not universal in China, farmers and some in rural area's are allowed 2, some religions are exempt all together. The rich can afford to have more then one child however. Their are heavy penalties if they do. Beijing has recently started a campaign to socially ostracize those that chose to get around the law. The real question should be, what would you expect China to do considering they are roughly the same size as the USA with less arable land? Let the normal practice of having up to ten children go unabated to an eventual catastrophic end, or enact population control? That is the part that most of you know nothing of. Plus the people here understand how important small families are. Everyone is in agreement China is too crowded. I know, I'm a transplanted American living in the central part of China. As I have stated many times here, what people know of China would fit in a thimble, what they think they know would fit in a barrel. The answers above are indicative of that. Peace Jim . Source(s): My knowledge. http://www.china.org.cn http://www.cia.gov Other Travel Tips Yes. this is what i last heard. For having more than 1 child they are deprived of certain previledges which are otherwise enjoyed by couples with 1 child yes think so, i was watching a documentary about this and people where getting round this by taking fertility drugs and having multiple births. personally i only have one child as thats all i can afford but if you can afford to have children and support thenm without sponging from the state then they should be allowed to have as many children as they want. No, this policy has changed but any more than 2 is stronly discouraged with financial penalties. Only one. Very sensible or famine will stalk the land again. Better if they made sure certain couples have boys and other girls to maintain 50:50. More than one and they are punished. Maybe that's what we should do with those who have more than 2 here. Withdraw child benefits and make them pay for maternity care and delivery. Then we won't get people having kids just to collect benefits. Look, if you're talking about policy, it's one child. But in practice, there are those who bend the rules and get round this policy. Often, a pragmatic approach is taken. If they are simple folks who can be persuaded to abort, then it happens. If they are people who have influence or money to bring up an extra child, then a compromise can be found. According to my Chinese driver, if a couple's first child is a boy then they can't have another one. however, if their first child is a girl they can try to have one after i think 2 or 4 years. but if it's still a girl they can't have another one. |
