Where can I find vegetarian food and accomodation in Panyu City, Guangdong, China?? |
Travel Info I am a student from India who will be going to Panyu city during December 2007 for an internship. I would like to know if any cheap accomodation is available. Also, I would like to know if there are decent vegetarian restaurants as I would be staying there for about 4 weeks and I dont even consume egg.. Travel Tips I tried to look for restaurant directories that could help you, but even VegDining.com, which is usually helpful, does not have a listing for Guangdong. I would suggest that you try to cook your own food, or maybe bring instant noodles or other food that you can prepare just by adding hot water. Good luck! Others I am in GuangZhou too,but is Haizhu district,bordering with Panyu in the North. I think the place which you find is difficult to seek,cuz Chinese,especially Cantonese,they eat everything,include the bird flying in sky,the worm creeping in the ground,the fish swimming in water...etc. So if you wanna find a pure vegetarian restaurant or eatery,Its impossible there.I suggest u only want the vegetarian dishes while you looking at the menu. As to cheap accomodation,there are many cheap inn,not BIG HOTEL,everywhere in China,furthermore you can discover the "Zha Dai Suo(Chinese,equal inn)" is cheaper than star hotel.. I would suggest you to rent a place where you can cook your food (apartment or service apartment), the restaurants mostly cook the meat with the same wok / pot + they chop the vegetables on the same chopping board and even you have ordered vegetarian dishes, the kitchen utensil they use are the same which implies they are not "pure vegetarian", sometimes they re-use the oil that has been using for deep fried meat to stir fry food. It is not trustworthy to go to any restaurant if you are a strict vegetarian. You better try to learn some cooking skill and bring along some spices and herbs you like most from your country with you. You can find rice, potatoes, onions, various kinds of vegetables in the market, no worry for ingredients. Certainly, you need to buy a new cooking utensils for yourself too. |
