Is it possible to use my China cell phone in America? |
Travel Info Is it possible to use my China cell phone in America? Travel Tips It depends on your phone, if it is an unlocked GSM quad band phone, most likely it will work. Cingular and T-Mobile (service providers in the US) also use GSM, but a different frequency (850 or 1900 mhz) than in China and most of the world, so if you have a quad-band phone or the right tri-band phone that is not locked, it probably will work. GSM phones work with sim-cards that you should be able to change that will enable you to use your phone in different countries. China also uses a CDMA system, as does a couple of providers in the US (Sprint being one of them), but the phone may not work in the US. Unless you already have a phone, it's best not to buy one to use in the US. Almost all service providers will either give you a phone or a very good discount if you sign a one or two year contract. If you're not going to be there that long, and have a quad-band GSM phone, then try Cingular or T-Mobile service providers, they may be able to swap out the sim card for use in the US. Others Maybe. It has to be a dual or multi-band "world phone" AND your cellular service provider has to offer "international roaming". Check with your service provider. a tri-band phone would be enough. |
