You might want to use euros though because it is easier for them. Assuming you are in the US, take US dollars. Why pay twice to exchange US$ >> Euros>>HK$. You will be paying commission twice. And, no, Euros is not 'easier' for anyone... it is just a another currency. They use HK dollars there, so as long as you have a convertible currency, like Euros, Pounds, US $, Yen, they will convert to local currency. Now, if you have some Euros lying around, go ahead use them! I have traveled around the world on business & pleasure -- visited over 58 countries. Thanks to proliferation of ATMs, we don't really need to carry travellers cheques or worry about which currency to carry. Ideally, you just need to carry your ATM card. Then you can withdraw local currency from any ATM there. The amount will be deducted from your US or European bank account. The nominal charge for ATM may be reimbursed by your bank. If you must carry foreign currency, take US dollars. You can at least exchange that in some of the average class hotels (even if you are not staying there). Most top hotels accept all major currencies such as Euros, Canadian dollars, USD, Yen, Singapore Dollars and Swiss Francs I have visited the place a few times |
