Advice on china?

Travel Info
I am 16... I will be going to China in about two weeks with my friend... specifically Wushi. It is my first time... I'm not even Chinese, I'm Vietnamese. It will be just my friend and I, and we will be helping at the local college there by speaking with the students and helping them practice their English. Any tips for my trip? Like, what would be okay to wear (in terms of China not being very safe...)? Tips on how to speak with the students... other random stuff I might want to know?

Travel Tips
Talk to the group that organized your travel. They should have specific info for you. Otherwise the best site is - http://www.lonelyplanet.com/worldguide/d...

I'll be visiting Beijing at the end of the month. From the info I've found, the Chinese do not expect you to be aware of their customs and are very forgiving of the cultural mistakes you may make.

You may want to have some idea of a few simple things you can teach your students. Again, ask those who arranged your trip.

For travel clothing, cities are modern and quite Westernized. In the country you may want more functional clothing.

Check the average temperatures for the area you're visiting here - http://weather.yahoo.com/regional/chxx.h...

Since YOU have been selected for this wonderful opportunity, you must be a pretty smart cookie! Just remember, the clothing of most typical 16 yr. old American girls should not be what you would want to wear to represent your school, your nation, and be considered an educated young lady who they can learn from....This may be a fabulous reference one day for a job or for college...take photos, get contacts, etc.

i went to guangzhou two years ago. i found that it was very safe. it gets VERY humid this time of year though. when i got there, the moment i stepped of the plane, i was soaked in sweat! my advice is to make your trip worth while. while i was there, i could have gotten many things done there that are cheaper - like getting my moles removed, getting glasses, etc.
it's will be safe in china, and you could buy anything like in usa. but if you can't speak chinese, you'd better write some word in chinese, such as "i want to go somethere, can you tell me how to get there",but in chinese. enjoy it.
