Cheap HK Food? |
Travel Info Looking for cheap places in HK that serve great Cantonese food please (especially dim sum). I know that a lot of the best ones are hole-in-the-wall types that don't always have signs but I'm hoping for some specific recommendations please. I've been to all the tourist forums so I have a potential list (Luk Yu, Maxim's, City Hall, etc) but I also want a lower price range (read: cheap to dirt cheap but good) so I have a lot of options. Help please. Thanks! Travel Tips Cheap HK Food = ? only dim sum? or any other as well?? 1) Lin Heung Tea House (more than 60 years of history) - if you don't mind to share table and it is always very crowded This is a place for real authentic dim sum experience and the classic Chinese-style tea service, they also serve some dim sum which you can't find in other modern restauarants. But you have to chase the dim sum cart to fight for them with other customers. Well, the price is cheap but not dirt cheap. 160-164 Wellington Street, Central. Tel: 2544-4556 Their lotus seed paste bun, big bun and liver siu mai are very famous. 2) Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao Always have long queue out of their branches and I usually go there at odd hours so that I don't have to wait for a table. Their Xiao Long Bao is tasty, worth for waiting! B/F Times Square, Causeway Bay Tel: 2506-0080 2/F Two International Finance Centre, Central Tel: 2295-3811 Harbour City, Tsim Sha Tsui Tel: 2622-2699 3) Hop Lung Chinese Noodles - fish balls 5 Landale Street, Wanchai Tel: 2527-7870 39 Sing Woo Road, Happy Valley Tel: 2893-2639 4) Joy Hing - BBQ Pork / Roast Duck (more than 40 years of history) The best price for their tasty BBQ pork (Cha Siu) and again it is crowded especially from 12:00 to 2:00 and dinner time. 265-267 Hennessy Road, Wanchai Tel: 2519-6639 5) Mak An Kee Noodle (Wontons) Famous for their "Top-notch" wontons but the portion is small. 77 Wellington Street, Central Tel: 2854-3810 If you want some other information of Asian cuisines, just let me know. (Thai, Veitnamese, Japanese, Korean or Seafood which may not not dirt cheap but also are well-known amongst local Hong Kong people) Source(s): Local Hong Kong citizen Other Travel Tips I have no idea. Any restaurant there will serve great and cheap tim-sum. You have to go to Kowloon. there are lots of really nice shops in Mong kok.... especially near the flower street and lady street there are tons of like small stores that sell like smlelly tofu... egg tarts curry fish balls... and go into a cafe. all of the cafes aroudn there are pretty good. try the ice red bean drink. |
