Has anyone ever been to Shanghai in China?

Travel Info
I'm in the USA now and I'm going there for a vacation for 2 weeks (i know, not very long). I'm Chinese...though I was born in America. I have never been to China, let alone any other country, and my sister told me we were going to Shanghai. How is it like?? Oh and...I've never been on an airplane before so how is that like?? Please include any other detail that I haven't mentioned, Thanks!!

I know that money from America is worth more in China.

Travel Tips
Just got back from Shanghai last week, it was pretty nice. Shanghai is one of the most westernized cities in China so don't worry too much about the culture gap. There's practically Starbucks and McDonalds everywhere in case you need a frappacino. Shanghai is also great for shopping and has good food and the exchange rate is pretty favorable so enjoy yourself.

The only bad thing about China imo is the public restrooms. Prepare to bring your own toilet paper if you're out and bear with the dirtyness.

And the plane ride is long, about 14 hours (from Chicago) but you can watch movies or read to kill the time if you don't sleep.

Let me know if you have questions.

Shanghai's pretty cool; its Pudong area has technological highlights like the Oriental Pearl Tower and there are some good shopping places. The Xujiahui Cathedral is an interesting place to visit. However, Shanghai is pretty crowded. Also, watch out for con artists, as many people try to scam tourists, especially along the busy Nanjing Road, the main shopping street of Shanghai.

If i go to CHINA i would go to shanghai,,,beijing,,,guangzhou because those are three biggest cities of CHINA,i heard my friend told me the food is wonderful, the shopping is huge, and so many people especially girls so cool!
I just wait until next year september for summer olympic in beijing then i go thought!
I just returned from my 4th visit to Shanghai and every time I visit my appreciation for the city has declined. I was in China for 6 weeks and was only in Shanghai for 3 days. Shanghai use to be a wonderful city with charm and history. Now it's just another commercialized city of China. There's WAY too many people--which can cause the friendliest person to feel claustrophobic. The air is bad because of the terrible pollution so you feel like you can't breathe.

Although there are some positives to Shanghai--Pudong, Pearl TV Tower, Yu Yuan Garden. These destinations can be found else where in China without the headache.
The Flight: its about 16hours for a direct flight; a 1 stop layover flight (usually stops in Japan or Korea) can add anywhere from 1-8 hours to you trip. I really do not mind the layover as sometimes its cheaper for the flight and you get a chance to eat some other type of airport food and see different asian people.

Shanghai: Its big city with a lot to do. You can shop, drink, sightsee and much more. Of course, you are in china, so you can try many many different types of chinese food. each reagion of food has a different taste.

I really like the bar and the club seen. It fun and its definitely a culture shock.

Get a lot of massages, as the cost 100$USD/hour here in the USA, it will cost about 10$ an hour there.

I have added a like to the bottom which shows the recommended things to do from Yahoo Travel. I been to all those places and you should see it all.

Have fun.
