There is heavy censorship of the internet in China. Many American TV shows will be blocked. I know a friend had his TV cable connected to this modem like thing so that he can watch TV on his laptop where ever there's internet connection. It was actually a pretty new technology 2yrs ago, but I can't seem to recall the name of it. Sorry about it. Here's a similar product though: http://www.tv2me.com/ you can buy most TV shows on DVD now, usually shortly after the season, you can also fond some 90's and 80's and even 70's shows now lived in Beijing now living in Shanghai I relied on BitTorrent for my American TV shows when I lived in Shanghai last year. Got some fast DSL internet connection, and shows get posted on the torrent sites an hour or two after they air in the US. The files are all HDTV-quality and mostly are in DiVX Avi format, so I can just burn the files onto a CD and watch on my MPEG4-enabled DVD player (bought it in Shanghai, local brand, about 500rmb at the time). If you are patient and can wait until the season finishes, most "complete season on DVD" sets show up on the DVD stands a week or two after the the seasons end on US TV. That way you don't even have to wait week-to-week! |
