How does it look like with polyagmy in China? Are polygamous marriages common? Are there any limits thereon?

Travel Tips
Just like any other modern country, you can only register once unless you divorce your spouse. But there is no limit if a person wanted to cheat and I think it is getting more common nowadays (both men & women).

In the older days, it would limited to men having more sex partners because they refered polygamous was just natural needs and women depended on men for finanicial support. Even now, some men have mistresses in different cities and it is till very common.

In Hong Kong, the rich men mostly have a few, for example, Sir Stxnlxy Hx, has 4 (the wife - the first one - died, though) whom he formally admits they are his women and taking care of them and their children, for no doubt he had a lot more others in the past (he is now a 80+ old man). His family grossips are always on entertainment news or magazines.

you mean having more than one spouse at the same time? that's against the law!

I was born in China and raised up there. That's really against the law. Yup. I know some rich guys may have secret lovers or sex partners. But that's definitely not another wife. The society won't accept that.
Polygamous marriages are accepted in the older days. Things started to change in the early 1900s. That's really long long ago. At that time, the Emperor may have many concubines. There was no number limit at that time.
Polyagmy is illegal in China.
I don't think it still happens. It certainly used to in Imperial times but after 1911 and certainly with the People's Republic of China it isn't allowed. That said, businessmen certainly do have a wife and kids at home and multiple mistresses in areas that they travel to (not all obviously, but it's quite common). Hope that helped!
when I first came to China everyone was still pretty much moral or at least the having the girlfriend(s) on the side was still under the table, I had a Chinese friend tell me that marriage was spiritual and I said yes it is, he said well let me define spiritual for you, he proceeded to tell me that spiritual was the food, clothes, housing, and as long as you provided those for your wife you were free to do what ever you wanted to with other women, since coming about 10 years ago I have seen a HUGE increase in prostitution and porn is all over the streets, in several years China will have about 20 million men unable to marry b/c of the boy/girl ratio, I believe it will cause even greater moral problems for China
