Cultural question about kissing?

i had a really nice date with a chinese guy i met through a friend. we had been talking on the phone for a couple of weeks, then we met in the city. i met him there at 11:30 am and didn't leave until 9:30 pm. we had a great time together. i kissed him on the cheek at one point, when we were sitting together in the park, because it just seemed like the right moment to do it.

now this guy is from mainland china and has been in the usa for 6 yrs now. i know people who have told me that my kissing him on the cheek probably gave him the impression that i am a loose american woman who is going to be in it for sex only. at the end of the evening he gave me a hug and a kiss on the mouth, I kinda pulled away before the kiss got too intense.

how 'severe' of a mistake was it that i kissed him on the cheek, i mean is it really a big deal? after the date he has called me every day since, and we are going to go out again as soon as our schedules permit.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. If he's been here six years I'm sure he's had a chance to be exposed to American girls and learn what they're like, and he knows a kiss on the cheek is just a sign of affection.

If not, you will teach him! Its about time he realized that a girl who kisses him on the cheek is not trying to seduce him.
Chinese guys can always tell which type of girls to have fun with ,and which type to bring home and show their parents.But again this one has been in the states for sometime.Just do what you think is appropriate.

dont listen to what they say. there is no rule of when to kiss in china. if there was my mom would had already told me. but u r still worry than go ask him ur self u can feel better and apologize to him about kissing u on the lip and explain why u did that so he can feel better. well good luck with the date
In China traditional culture, Chinese girl will not kiss boy initiatively at their first date.

And now many young people like to express their affections directly like other young people in many other countries.
Also in your story the Chinese man have lived in USA for 6 years, I think he could understand what you did.

usualy a kiss means "i like you".
and kiss on the check is that you are starting to show him your affections yet still a bit shy.
