What do you call the people from Hongkong? |
Travel Info Are people from Hongkong called Chinese too? I have a friend and she's from Hongkong.. she speaks Cantonese.. Im not sure if they are Chinese or what? Travel Tips yes. people from china, hong kong, and taiwan are chinese. to be more specific, they have people that are canton, hunanese, taiwanese, fonkinese, and etc. i'm canton, hunanese, and fonkinese.and that is still chinese. it might be confusing, but you will get it soon. Others Why don't you ask her what her race/ethnicity is? It is more offensive to assume or guess that she is of a particular race than to ask her. Yep....they are definitely Chinese!!! Of course they r chinese.Or can i ask u a similiar question?What do u call the people from china?Xiao long nu or zhong guo ren or do u call them chinese? yes. they're chinese. yes they are classed as chinese, because most families in HK are originally from canton province in china, but my friend is from HK and she calls herself and other people in hong kong.. 'HK'ers they have a fierce individual identity and some if not many will resent being called chinese because they had the luxury of english rule for so long that to say they ara chinese again seems like a step backwards for them, particularly now because things are really changing in HK and most wish the brits hadn't given it back Some call them Hong kongese too. |
