What is a day in eating(breakfast, lunch, dinner) for a chinese person? |
Travel Info just very curios they seem to be very healthy and slim so id like to see what they would have for breakfast, lunch and dinner Travel Tips Slim, yes...healthy, not necessarily, as some people still dont have enough to eat mostly in the country side as well as the migrants living is squalid conditions in big cities. The traditional chinese diet is actually very healthy if you can afford it. The traditional "typical" diet (as typical as can be since Chinese cuisines are so varied) consists of a combination of rice, rice and/flour noodles, vegetables, soybean, meat and fish and seafood depending on the region but as flavouring rather than as the center-piece of the meal. Typically, except for hot pot, food is stir-fried in very little fat and very quickly, which helps keep vitamins and nutrients intact in the food. Depending on the region, people eat different food but generally what you eat for breakfast is what you would eat for lunch or dinner. Congee, a thin rice porridge, is popular in the south for breakfast, but I don't think it is so common in the northern provinces of China. Dumplings are popular throughout the day, as are snacks on sticks (pigeon, sparrows, quail eggs, BBQ asparagus and green onions, etc.)For lunch, people who work or go to school will either have leftovers from yesterday's dinner or rice or noodles with vegetables flavored with bits of pork or chicken. Dinner is usually rice or noodles and three to four other kinds of dishes, at least one of which would be all vegetables: greens (chinese cabbage, bok choy, spinach, broccoli, snow peas, green and red peppers, string beans, eggplant, zucchini, etc.), sweet potatoes and yams, onions, shallots, garlic, tomatoes, or tofu; and a little bit of beef, chicken or pork. Oh yeah, with enormous quantity of green or jasmine tea...and a couple of Panda cigarettes for dessert...apparently, the good stuff in green tea kills the bad stuff in tobacco! Others Usually congee (Porridge) for breakfast, sometimes noodles, sometimes dimsum. Lunch and dinner both will be rice with some meat/veg dishes and a soup. I just got back from China...eating there is awesome! They eat these bowls of noodles in the morning...not just any noodles...they are really good...in the noodles they put different little vegetables and spices...you get to choose from a variety...kinda like a buffet of sorts...then you pour hot broth over everything! It seems everybody eats at these little family diners...in fact I was the only non chinese person I saw in these diners...their BBQ is different too...no sugary sauces just lean meat...beef, pork, duck, chicken. The meat seems to have a rub of spices on it. Anyway, I ate everything I saw for a week and lost two pounds! Interesting to me is they really don't have alot of 'breakfast' foods, other than congee (which is like an oatmeal-y gruel).. They eat the same foods for breakfast that they eat for lunch and dinner such as rice, noodles, meats.. Too hearty a breakfast for the American taste, usually. |
