Where are the best places to visit on new zealands south island.?

Travel Tips
Since I lived there for a while -
My top picks are::::

From top of the south island start in Nelson with the great beaches, vineyards, outdoor adventure and art centres. http://www.nelsonnz.com

Rent a campervan of http://www.tourism-nelson.co.nz... and go cruising.

See Abel Tasman National Park http://www.abeltasman.co.nz - http://www.aquataxi.co.nz
So much to see and do there - you could spend a week easy. Kayak around the park, or walk the track - also swim with the seals there. If you want you can walk down and take an aquataxi back, just flag them down on the beach like taxis.... there is enough of them !

Marlborough / Picton 鈥?The Sounds - http://www.destinationmarlborough.com... Wine country big time. From Picton you can take the ferry across to Wellington.

Whale watching is in Kaikoura. http://www.kaikoura.co.nz
http://www.whalewatch.co.nz
http://www.whales.co.nz
http://www.worldofwhales.co.nz

Christchurch - best attractions are listed here http://www.chchattractions.co....
The Gondola is great - http://www.gondola.co.nz
Christchurch's International Antarctic Centre - http://www.iceberg.co.nz

Franz Joseph Glacier - http://www.franzjosefglacier.com...

Queenstown - adventure capital of NZ. Costly little place with all the attractions on offer. You can't pass up a bungy jump though. http://www.ajhackett.co.nz
and the Milford Sounds, http://www.fiordland.org.nz

The world famous Shotover Jet doing full 360潞 spins! http://shotoverjet.co.nz

And if you are really stuck for ideas - search http://www.dosomething.co.nz Source(s): Have a great time
Other Travel Tips
Well when I went to New Zealand (South Island) I visited the Franz Joseph Glacier which is in Franz Joseph (absolutely breathtaking), Dunedin (Which includes the Lanarch Castle, and the worlds steepest street), Christchurch is really nice too (it has the Antarctic Centre) and Queenstown (it has the 360 degrees turnover jet, tonnes of cafes and stuff and really fun luge rides!!

Hope that helps!!
You must go to Oamaru and see the Blue Penguins. If you are really lucky you may see Yellow Eyed Penguins also.

You are so lucky, I'd go back in a flash!!
Agree with K Bear. I would also add MIlford Sound.
Visit Dunedin, the Edinburgh of the South.
