Has anyone ever lived in Cincinnati? |
Travel Info And what did you think? Is it a nice place to live? Is it expensive to rent? Thanks p Travel Tips I have lived in Cincinnati and I love it. Like all places, it has areas that need improvement. Yet, a city is like a potential spouse . . . you have to find one that is right for you. Cincinnati's "happenings" go on in the neighborhoods. Cincinnatians tend to be local community oriented people who maintain a close connection to their neighborhoods and who do not move as often as people do in more transient urban areas. So, you get a rich distinctive community culture in the neighborhoods. The plus side is that there are real community feeling and loyalty. The down side is that it is hard for new people to break in. The West Side has been slowly transitioning from established neighborhoods to crime-ridden poverty-stricken neighborhoods for the last forty years (since the interstate highway projects displaced poor black communities around the downtown area). It's slow, but it's occurring. Jobs are moving to the northeastern exurbs, and so are people with money (and white residents who were the dominant group on the West Side -- "white flight"). In some sense, the old West Side is dying, and until new job opportunities occur for middle and upper middle class residents, the trend will continue. |
