Cincinnati, Ohio - can someone tell me what it's like to live there??

Travel Info
Hi! I'm moving to a big city in about a year... I was leaning toward chicago, but someone today told me that I should check out Cincinnati, Ohio... can anyone tell me what it's like to live there? like do they have a good public transportation system, etc.?

What would be even better is that if someone who has lived in both the cities (Chicago and Cincinnati) could compare and contrast the two for me.

THANKS!!

Travel Tips
There are pros and cons to living in both cities. It really depends on what you are looking for in a city.

Cincinnati is not the greatest for singles. It is a great city to raise a family. The school systems in the suburbs are pretty good. There are a number of different museums you can visit. Traffic is not as bad as in Chicago. We do not have a subway system so getting around is either by bus, taxi or car.
There are a lot of different companies based in Cincinnati such as Procter & Gamble (makers of Tide, Bounty, Pampers), GE Aircraft Engines, Kroger (largest grocery store chain).

Chicago is a city sometimes we go visit. It is only about a 5-6 hour drive. The winters in Chicago are pretty bitter as it gets really cold. Because they are on Lake Michigan, it snows pretty hard there. Since Chicago is a big city, they have a better transportation system. Their subway system can take you to a lot of different places so you don't have to drive. What is nice about Chicago is that they have a lot of diversity. I hear Chicago has the second largest population of Polish people outside of Poland. They also have a huge Chinatown. You can go see a lot of shows there also.

If I were you, I would take a visit to both cities and decide for yourself what you think. Cincinnati is a more conservative than Chicago but it is easy to get around.
Others
Like most large cities the crime rate is through the roof. A price you pay for life in the big city but it seems that lately Cincinnati has really gotten out of hand. Other than that it is like most large cities, overpopulated and traffic is a nightmare, smog, etc. I guess it's main saving grace is the WEBN fireworks over the Ohio River.
run as fast as you can from cincinnati - my grown children live there and hate it...they'd leave if it weren't for family...high crime, lots of unemployment...bad winters and humid summers...
I have visited Cincinnati several times, I live in Columbus, Ohio. Honestly I don't like it. It's hot, humid, and in the winter is cold. There are places to go, it's got the Bengals, the Reds, and of course you can go on the gambling boats on the Ohio River. Plenty of shopping and Universities. The amusement park King's Island is there. If you want to slip over the bridge you are in Kentucky.
Chicago is colder in the winter, hot and humid in the summer, but it's fun. Lots of tall buildings, museums, and trendy. I think Chicago would cost more but you get more. If it were me I'd scratch both cities off my list and choose another.
No matter where you go you have pros and cons. Good Luck!
I have resided in 18 states and visited 39.
Well the popular nickname for Cincinnati is Cincinasty if that tells you anything. I honestly do not like it there I have visted a few times and stayed there for a few weeks with a friend but I thought it was awful.
i have lived in big cities, and small towns. been to 46 states, lived in 12 other states,10 other countries. Cincinnati, like all cities have good and bad points. but here in Cincinnati, i think the good out weigh the bad. it's like living in the middle of every thing. i was born and raised in Kentucky. i have lived in Cincinnati for 20 years now. it is as good as you make it. Chicago, well that's a different story, been there many times for my job, the nastiest place i ever been in. there are many things in Cincinnati to do. if anyone say they are bored, well i think they are just to lazy to do anything. you have a tri-state area here that is like none other. you can get on i-275 and drive the circle in about an hour, it go's thru 3 states, Ohio,Kentucky,Indiana. for the most part the people here are good. you have bad people any where you go. we have the largest variety of entertainment of any area you can go to. i feel lucky. because i could live any where in the country i want, and i choose to live here. you live in a big city, that has a small town feel. as far as work, well there plenty here too. anyone that say they can not find a job, is either not looking for one, or lazy, or both. there no reason to be bored here either, there is just so many different things to do, and or to go to. so you can see i love it here. hope this helps you. oh yeh, public trans is good here too. housing is at a middium too, cost of living is actualy low compared to many other areas you could be at.
