What's northern kentucky like? |
Travel Info Northern Kentucky(Florence, Covington,Walton,Alexandria) like the Boone, Kenston, Campbell counties. What is the are like. Is there anything to do? IS it flat land or hilly? Are the people hospitable or snooty? HHMM! Travel Tips Boone, Kenton, and Campbell all have a little of everything and a lot of nothing. As mentioned Walton and Alexandria are more rural areas. I've only been to Walton a couple times but it seems to still have that small rural town feel. Alexandria's tag line is "Where the city meets the country" the southern part of Alexandria is still rather rural, but the northern end has shopping and subdivisions. I was always raised to stay out of Covington -- however Main Strausse Village (bars and restaraunts) is safe due to the crowds, and the Mike Fink Restaraunt on the river, and several other attractions are safe -- you just don't want to get lost there by yourself because it can get sketchy. I can't say a whole lot about the residential parts of Florence because I'm just not familiar -- but I understand there's a mix of low income neighborhoods and middle to upper class neighborhoods. Florence offers some of the best diversity in shopping and dining in the Northern Kentucky area -- I would be surprised to learn of anyone from Boone, Kenton, or Campbell who has not gone to Florence to shop or dine. Northern Kentucky definitely has it's share of hills and windy country roads. People from other areas are sometimes astounded by how windy and hilly some of our roads are. We have a lot of green -- grass, plants, and trees. I like to think everyone here is hospitable -- but maybe that's a question best left to visitors. I live in a neighborhood where we all help each other out -- lending this and that and watching each other's homes and pets when vacationing. There are things to do -- but being a native I never find much to do, it's all the same. Newport on the Levee is great, there's shopping, movie theaters, night life (dancing, bars, live music, stand-up comedy), hiking, fishing, camping, amusement parks nearby, and an array of church and city festivals. I absolutely love it here! Others Oh Northern KY - it's really weird, very pretty, but really weird. It is very hilly - but a completely different world from Cincinnati - which is just across the river. By no means is Cinci a liberal place, but you cross a river and are suddenly seeing confederate flags on cars, etc. Covington has some nice areas, but most of it is pretty sketchy. Florence is nicer, as is Alexandria. Alexandria and Walton are more "country" whereas Covington and Florence are more suburby. People tend to be pretty nice; however, there is an undertone of racism. Used to live in Cinci In northern Kentucky you can go to the Newport on the Levee. It has the Newport Aquarium, nice restaurants and is a great place to walk around. There is also the Tropicana which is a dance club and bar. If you like German food, there is the Hofbrahaus (don't know how to spell it). The food is pretty good and the beer is fresh because they make it inside the restaurant. It offers a fun atmosphere. Northern Kentucky actually is pretty hilly. You drive down a big hill called the Cut in the Hill if coming into Cincinnati from Northern Kentucky on I-75. Going up that hill, trucks must switch to the right lanes because it is hard for them to get up the hill. The people are friendly but somewhat conservative since this area is more conservative than other big cities. As the previous person mentioned, I would be careful about being in Covington especially at night. The other areas are pretty safe and are inhabited by middle to middle-upper class people. pretty boring... but like the first answer said... COMPLETELY different from just across the river in cincinnati. it's very hilly. very hospitable people.. you still get that southern comfort vibe from them.. i'd reccomend going to the Turfway park horse races... or Newport on the Levee.... like antiques?? there are TONS of antique malls. live in cinci That area is some what hilly as it is the foothills of the Appalachian mountains. There is plenty of shopping and restaurants. Also camping and hiking if your into outdoor activity. The people there are usually hospitable but also often busy and on the go. This area of the country is quasi-southern. We're not quite as friendly and mannerly as people of the true south, but we're also not as time crunched as people in the north. |
