Have you had a lay over at Cincinnati, Ohio Airport....? |
Travel Info We have a 3.5 hour lay over and wanted to go by taxi to the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame, just to see the outside. Do you think we will have enough time? Is it worth it? Any other suggestions during the lay over? Travel Tips If you leave the airport at all I wouldn't recommend trying to go into Cincinnati -- depending on traffic and time of day it could take you a half hour or more to make it to downtown Cincinnati, 20 minutes would probably be the quickest. As mentioned the airport is not in even in OH -- if you want to leave the airport, maybe try a restaurant in Hebron, KY. Gracie's is good and there's also a Mexican place. The new Creation Museum in Petersburg is also very close to the airport if you're interested in something like that. However since you will be going by taxi it's probably best to just stay at the airport. The cab driver probably won't wait -- and Hebron and Petersburg are rural areas so it will take a long time to get a cab to come back and pick you up. The Rock 'N Roll Hall of Fame is impossible as I'm sure you've figured. As mentioned you could take a continuous cab ride to downtown Cincinnati to see the stadiums, riverfront, and fountain square. If you are determined to take a sightseeing cab you might also be interested in seeing the world's largest stained glass window at the Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption in Covington, KY and/or the World Peace Bell in Newport, KY. Others Do NOT leave the Airport! It can be a real pain in the butt to get to the Rock and Roll Hall of fame and back. Why? Because unfortunately for you, it is all the way up in Columbus. Sorry! Hey, the first guy was right by telling you not to try the RR hall of fame thing... It's not in Columbus... Its Cleveland. (about 260 miles/4.5 hrs each way from cincy airport) Cincinnati International Airport isn't even in the state of Ohio... It is in Boone County, Ky. (20 minutes from Cincy) 3.5 hr lay over, I would find a pub! The Rock and Roll hall of fame is in Cleveland, which is a 4+ hour drive from Cincinnati. I don't think you have enough time to do that :) I'm not big on leaving the airport during layovers, so I would stay put. You could take a taxi to see the downtown skyline which is beautiful from the Kentucky side (the airport is actually in Kentucky). Go by Fountain Square (it's been redone), Paul Brown Stadium (Bengals play there) and The Great American Ballpark (Reds play there). That shouldn't take too long it's all downtown. Well, to begin with, the Rock 'n Roll museum is in Cleveland, which I believe is 265 miles away. Round trip to downtown Cincinnati would be 45 minutes to an hour. So you need to deduct that your 3.5 hours. And you need to go through security again, so allow 30 minutes for that, just to be safe. If you are flying Delta or Comair, you need to deduct another 20-30 minutes to get from security to the gate. You need to be at the gate 30 minutes in advance. I make that total to be 2.5 hours. Deducting that from your 3.5 hours, I hope that you bring a book. |
