What kind of public transportation does Cleveland have?

Travel Tips
Cleveland has a countywide public transit system that encompasses buses and rapid transt lines under the Cleveland RTA. A single all day unlimted travel pass good on rapid and bus routes is priced at only $3. Compared to many cities, RTA is a decent provider of public transit in my opinion. It is the only public transit system in Ohio that includes rapid transit. It is one of the few public transit systems in the country (and was the first) to link by train the city's airport with the downtown central business district. Single bus fares are 75 cents, Single rapid route fares are $1.50, and an all day pass that encompasses unlimeted travel on bus and rapid routes is only $3. Monthly passes and deals are also available. The only issue with Cleveland RTA is that bus transit runs mostly throughout the day, or exclusively at peak commuting hours. Rapid routes, however, run almost on a 24 hour basis.

The transit hub for the city is at Tower City Center. It is a large complex where all three rapid lines meet in the central station in the lower levels, and it encompasses downtown's shopping center, food court, parking garages, movie theater, Cleveland's two nicest hotels, office towers, restaurants, and indoor walkways to the Q Arena and Jacobs Field. Tower City is within walking distance to all practically all downtown hotels, the Warehouse District, E.9th financial district, E.4th entertainment district, and the Civic Center and Convention Center. Tower City Center is where the customer service desk for RTA is, as well as visitor's information. Tower City is located on Public Square and the front entrance on the square is the terminus for over 80% of RTA bus routes. Also in front of Tower City on Public Square is a downtown taxi stand.

You can use the rapid lines from Tower City to get to the doorsteps of destinations like the Flats riverfront entertainment district, Rock Hall and Science Center, Amtrak station, University Circle district, the West Side Market and Ohio City neighborhood, Hopkins Airport, and Shaker Square. The 821 Circulator bus also connects Cleveland's famous "Heights" commercial districts of visitor interest like Shaker Square (green and blue rapid link), Cedar-Fairmont, University Circle (red line rapid link), Little Italy, and Coventry Village.

Cleveland is making investments in its public transit like the Euclid Corridor project, and a west shore rail transit line has been proposed. Tower City Center will also enjoy a new service starting this April by a new bus provider called Megabus that will operate express bus travel to Chicago with fares starting at $1.
