Which month is best for visiting Cleveland to see the Indians? August or September?

I am a lifelong Indians fan, but have never seen the Tribe play at Jacobs Field. (crazy) I am planning a weekend trip this August or September to catch a few games. I want to come in August because of the hot weather, but I know September will make for easier travel. (I'm flying standby.) Which month is better to be in Cleveland, and is September much chillier than August, or not much difference?
Also, any suggestions for a nice but reasonable place to stay downtown within walking distance to the park and other places to go?
