Travel Info Does anyone know of any jazz clubs in Cleveland? Travel Tips The most highly acclaimed jazz club is Nighttown just East of University Circle in Cleveland Heights on Cedar Road at the intersection of Fairmount Boulevard. This club has made a lot of international press and is very well respected. The only problem is that cover can be a little pricey- like in the $15 dollar range. Nighttown is also an upscale white tablecloth restaurant. Boulevard Blue on Larchmere Boulevard is also in the area. I have never been there, but from the outside it looks very nice. Like Nighttown, Boulevard Blue is located in a very attractive commercial district with a lot of character. Bopstop is located on Cleveland's near West side on Detroit Avenue. The acoustics in this place are really good. In fact a lot of recordings are done here. The only problem with Bopstop is that I don't think they are open very regularly. In my opinion the Blues scene is a little better than the jazz scene, but maybe that's just because I might like Blues music better. Fat Fish Blue downtown Cleveland on Prospect near Public Square is the home venue of Robert Lockwood Junior. He is a true Blues legend and plays at Fat Fish every wednesday. Fat Fish Blue features New Orlean's creole cuisine. On the West Bank of the Cuyahoga River there is a fantastic rustic bar with tall windows behind the bar that offer a tremendous view of the Cleveland skyline. Thursday nights Glen Schwartz plays there. One of Cleveland's best secrets, he was founding member of the James Gang and acclaimed by Jimi Hendrix as one of the greatest guitarists of all time. Parkview Nite Club is tucked away but a real treat. If you want a real Cleveland bar, fantastic Blues music, and surprisingly good food, you have to go there. It is a 1930s vintage bar that attracts mostly a blue collar crowd, but it isn't surprising to see a Jaguar or Mercedes parked outside. Barking Spider Tavern is a very unique venu in Cleveland that plays an assortment of music that ranges from jazz, folk, blues, and swing. It is located in University circle in the carriage house of an old mansion. This place is particularly popular with graduate students in the neighborhood, and kind of a local secret.
